FROM THE EDITOR

Greetings Cousins:

I'm often delighted by articles I can find on the web. One must search every couple of years because the amount of information increases exponentially. Being a mid-handicap golfer, I was checking out the golf courses in the Halifax County, Virginia area where I spent several years of my youth. I was surprised to see that one of the golf courses was named "Green's Folly." I knew of the house, also known as Oakland, and where it was located. See Philip Howerton - Howerton Heritage Fall 1996. I have listed the address of the Green's Folly website of which provides additional historical information about the House and our Howerton Heritage.

The Howerton Reunion in Claiborne County, Tennessee is coming up real soon. The annual event will be held Saturday, October 21, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Speaking of reunions, there were several held this summer. If any Howerton's had a reunion and you would like to have your own reunion web page on Howerton Heritage, please contact me. Pictures and text are welcome.

There are several obituaries included in this printing. I personally am saddened with the loss of George Marshall "Hunter" Howerton's mom, Ruby June Howerton from Marmet, WV. Hunter and I have become quite close over the past several years. We wish him well.

On another note, from time to time, we need to remind our readers that Howerton Heritage has between 19,000 - 20,000 Howerton names in the data base. Occasionally, we are asked to place newsworthy items and obituaries of folk who aren't Howertons on the site. We even get queries about other bloodlines that have branched off from the Howerton family. Bryan and I talk quite often and the thing we hate most is having to turn folk down who want to submit their complete family history for inclusion into the database. It is so personal to them and most have worked so hard to get their information that it must seem like a slap in the face when they are turned down. Our database would very quickly grow to over 100,000 easily. As Bryan once told me, "I would rather be able to provide very accurate information on just Howertons than to try and keep track of all Howerton relatives and only be able to do a half-way job." So please, don't get offended if we're not Ancestry.com.....we're not trying to be
