Howerton Cousins' Reunion
Appomattox, VA
The 2008 Howerton Cousins' Reunion was held Sunday July 27, 2008 at the Spout Spring Ruritan Club just outside Appomattox, VA. I arrived at 11:00 a.m. driving in from Richwood, WV. The first person on the scene was Doris Martin, co-coordinator of the bi-annual event. The day started off just right for Doris after finding out the door to the Ruritan hall was locked. I was extremely proud of her as she handled herself in a manner that any military General would be proud of. Doris borrowed my cell phone and spoke with someone for less that 20 seconds. Within minutes a truck travelling at a very high speed came sliding sideways into the parking lot throwing gravel 10-15 feet in all directions. Needless to say the door was unlocked and the rest of the reunion went without a hitch. (I wonder if the event will be held there in 2010?)
My cuz Hunter Howerton arrived immediately thereafter coming in from Marmet, (Charleston area) WV. It's always good to see Hunter even when we're not on the golf course.
One of the reasons I wanted to attend was "Fried Chicken." Growing up in southern Virginia I can still remember my "just about every Sunday afternoon meal" at Grandma's which was always seemed to be Fried Chicken. My mouth was watering as I entered the food line. I wasn't disappointed! There were many dishes I've never had before. Everything was great, especially the desserts.
Photos were taken by xxxxxxxx.
I look forward to getting invited back in 2010.
